Does the world really need another Burning Man web site?
Probably not, but Seattle does.
In the Summer of 2001, several Seattle-area burners were
having a planning meeting for the Black Rock Gazette and
the discussion turned toward the concept of a year-round
Gazette at the local level. Could such a thing be of use to
people in Seattle? Could it help strengthen the community
and give everyone a better experience once they all hit the
playa?
Even though everyone thought it was a good idea, we were
all way too busy preparing for the 2001 event to even think
about anything beyond Labor Day. But, after we all got home
and dusted ourselves off, the idea crept back in and simply
would not go away.
So here you have it... BurningManSeattle.com. A site that
strives to be a valuable resource for those of us who have
both mildew and playa dust coursing through our systems...
a site that will hopefully bring this community together
even if it has to be hog-tied and dragged to the table.
As this site evolves, it will rely extensively upon the
contributions of the local community to keep it fresh and
up-to-date. If we don't hear about events, they won't get
listed in the calendar. If we don't know about your Theme
Camp, we can't promote it for you. If we don't know about
that big party you're throwing at your house, we can't come
over and pass out on your sofa.
Even though the community will provide the heart and soul
of this site, the reality is that there has to be some
grunt work behind the scenes to keep it alive.
BurningManSeattle.com is brought to you by David Peterman,
the Seattle Regional Contact, who would also like for you
to visit some of his other sites such as PlayaChicken.com
and TwirlyGirl.net. He would also like to thank Kate
Forster and Ken Russell for their early-on inspiration and
suggestions.
